It is important to remember that Bali is a poor country and there are always those that will try and take advantage of tourists for the sake of a good scam.

Basic common sense is crucial to your not finding yourself a victim

  • Money Changers - always, always ALWAYS use a licenced money changer.  If you see an exchange rate that is too good to be true, thats because it is!
  • Drinking - We all like to have a good time on holiday.  Drink spiking is a real threat in Bali, so when partaking in a messy night on the turps - be sure that you are in the company of friends.  There is safety in numbers and someone to watch your back.
  • Money & Valuables - be sensible, only carry on you as much cash as you need and leave everything else in the safe in your room.  Worse case scenario? You have to go back to your room to cash up, its better than having to cancel your credit card or not having any money for the rest of your holiday.
  • Hire a driver - it is really affordable to hire yourself a reputable driver for the day, infact that is the point of this website.  The driver will act as your guide and a good driver will make sure you are not being taken advantage of and will look out for your safety while you are out exploring the beautiful island of Bali.
  • Getting stopped by Police - If you hire a bike or car while in Bali, remember that you will be required to obtain an international licence.  Remember to wear your helmet and abide by road rules and you should have nothing to worry about when it comes to being stopped by Police.
  • Road Rules - Bali traffic is very hectic and should be approached with caution.  Become a passive part of the traffic - Bali is the last place that you want to have an accident, and even if you were to slightly damage someone elses vehicle - I can assure you that they will insist you pay at least double what you should for repairs!
  • Bali Belly - Always use bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing food, ice.  If you are unfortunate enough to get Bali Belly, go directly to Bali International Hospital for the best treatment.
  • Tipping - Do not feel obliged to tip as in most cases a service fee has already been included in your bill.
